Alexander Kyriacou

I am a London born artist of Greek Cypriot background. My work is mainly photographic, though it incorporates elements of sculpture, installation and performance. My work focuses on pop culture and the notions of taste and beauty. My main influences come from the films of John Waters, the photographs by Mapplethorpe and the writings of Bakhtin and Kant. I wouldn’t say I am a photographer because I do not use the camera to capture real life, but rather as a tool to reshape and show my own version of reality. The images I create are planned and tagged, I build the sets and make the costumes, and then once the scene is shot it is then reworked to look exactly as I have designed it
